Adding value really pays…

About This Project

A small family single suckler beef farm, third generation, in the heart of Essex wanted to add value to their beef enterprise by selling the beef produced from the farm directly to local customers where demand for quality local beef was high.

Working with the client, Deersbrook Farm, we were able to demonstrate that the proposal would integrate and shorten the supply chain through enabling the sustainable, pasture-reared beef business to grow and develop whilst maintaining full control of the high quality and provenance of the food produced at the Farm.

Funding was successfully sought to support the development of a new on-farm butchery service and farm shop that sells food and drink from on farm and also has collaborated with quality local producers.

The project has improved productivity and profitability for the farm business; it met market demand, reduced food miles, created jobs and supported a number of local food and drink businesses.

During the Covid-19 crisis the farm shop has remained open, operating according to Government guidelines and provided a necessary service to customers. It also operates a mail order service from their online shop delivering across the UK.
